Beginning Band time is from 11:45-12:15 everyday. Even if they do not have their instrument or do not feel good that day, if they are at school, they need to come to class. They can learn from listening and fingering during class. They should be practicing at home. Have them teach you about their instrument. They will be getting flash cards to get faster with note recognition in the next week.
We will be starting our fundraiser on Sept. 27 . The forms and money will be due Oct. 9.

There are some good apps available for free that you can get at home for the band students to practice tuning and keeping a steady beat (metronome). Here are the ones that I am using.
Ipods, ipads, etc.
TE tuner (tonal energy tuner) - This one does cost a small fee. This has the smiley face that I am using in class. It also has a metronome included in the app.
You want to have the smiley face showing in the middle to be in tune. Remember to keep the air flowing as you are tuning. If the arc is above the middle (sharp), you need to pull out at the appropriate place or loosen your facial muscles (embouchure) or slow your air a little. If the arc is below the middle (flat), you need to push in at the appropriate place, tighten your facial muscles (embouchure), or speed up your airstream (us your tummy muscles).
Android
Da Tuner Lite - This shows the note in concert pitch in the middle. On the left is the decibles (how loud it is) and at the bottom is the line showing the tuning. It does not have a metronome.
If the guide is in the middle and the color of the screen is green, you are in tune. Remember to keep the air flowing as you are tuning. If the tube is to the is to the right of the middle (sharp), you need to pull out at the appropriate place or loosen your facial muscles (embouchure) or slow your air a little. If the tube is to the left of the middle (flat), you need to push in at the appropriate place, tighten your facial muscles (embouchure), or speed up your airstream (us your tummy muscles).
Mobile Metronome - is a metronome that has everything and is free on Androids
