Welcome to my online classroom.  Expectations for each class will be on this page, as well as an updated description of current high school art projects.

VISUAL ART class is 7th and 8th grade students, which rotates every 6 weeks. Visual Art students learn about the Elements of Art (the tools of art) and Principles of Design (how to use the tools of art). January will begin the 8th grade Visual Art student rotation.  Currently, the 7th grade Visual Art students are finishing their Pocket Weaving projects.

ART I class is currently working on creating their first “self-Portraits" which contain 4 different objects or symbols they identify with as they continue to work on their Collaborative PBL Poster Art projects for the Alpena School Mural. In short,  each student will contribute a “poster drawing” to be painted, then glued on to a pre-treated and primed concrete retaining wall.  Students will mix together a wheat paste glue which was originally used by Billboard artists of the 1950s, as once an image has been wheat pasted onto a wall or billboard, it has great longevity. An acrylic varnish will be applied over the completed images to help protect them from the weather.

ART II class has been working on different art  projects this year, learning how to plan as well as utilize design principles on art projects such as their “Kinetic Mandala" projects and self-portraits.  Alpena High School Art Department had entered artwork in the Ozark Mountain High School Student art show along with 12 other high schools from the area.  Out of 90 works of student art, David McDaniel’s Self-Portrait won 1st place, and his ‘Mandala” won 2nd place.  David will receive a $10.00 check for his 1st place artwork,  a McDonald’s gift coupon for his 2nd place mandala, and his picture in the Harrison Newspaper.
